X. campanelloides Redhead also resembles X. campanella in the field, but differs in certain microscopic characters---the hyphae of the flesh turn red in potassium hydroxide, and irregularly shaped cystidia are present on the stipe; it is a little known species, described on the basis of two collections from Washington and one each from Vancouver Island, Québec, and New York.
